PRIMARY MARKET · SOUTH KOREA · I2 / I3

Industrial pellets qualified against the Korean buyer’s actual specification.

South Korea’s current wood-pellet framework uses industrial grades I1 / I2 / I3. We position SIB PELLET around I2/I3 qualification, fresh laboratory evidence and utility-specific acceptance — not around an unsupported certification label.

*Commercial reference values describe the current SIB PELLET offer and are not, by themselves, an I2/I3 conformity statement. Basis, methods, sampling and contractual limits must be aligned with the buyer.

Commercial implication: our published reference values sit numerically inside the Korean I2/I3 thresholds for several key physical parameters, but sulfur, chlorine, nitrogen, fines, dimensions/length and trace elements must still be confirmed through the agreed current test package.
BUYER WORKFLOW

Spec → gap check → fresh test → contract acceptance.

01

Receive buyer spec

Plant, trader or tender specification including test methods and limits.

02

Map I2/I3 fit

Compare current commercial indicators and identify every unverified parameter.

03

Independent testing

Agree sampling point, laboratory, sulfur/chlorine/nitrogen, trace elements, fines and other required tests.

04

Acceptance matrix

Put limits, tolerances, rejection logic and document flow into the contract.

IMPORT DOCUMENTATION

Legality evidence belongs in the qualification pack.

Korea’s forest-product import system describes legality evidence such as harvest permits issued under the origin country’s laws and internationally recognized certification / chain-of-custody evidence. The exact document package should be confirmed with the Korean importer before shipment.

FAQ

Questions from Korean procurement teams.

Is SIB PELLET claiming I2 or I3 certification?

No. SIB PELLET uses the Korean industrial I2/I3 framework and ISO 17225-2 as qualification references. Final conformity must be demonstrated against the buyer's specification using agreed sampling, test methods and current batch evidence.

What are the Korean I2 limits for ash, sulfur and chlorine?

The industrial pellet table available through Korea's National Law Information Center lists I2 ash at ≤3.0% dry basis, sulfur at ≤0.05% dry basis and chlorine at ≤0.05% dry basis.

What changes for I3?

The same table lists I3 ash at ≤5.0%, sulfur at ≤0.05% and chlorine at ≤0.1%, with durability ≥95.0% and fines ≤6.0%.

Does a buyer specification override the generic class?

Commercially, yes: the signed specification, agreed test methods, sampling and acceptance procedure are the shipment acceptance basis. A utility or trader may use limits tighter than the national class.

What import documentation should be discussed early?

Origin and legality evidence should be discussed before contracting. Korea's timber import system lists documents such as origin-country harvest permits and internationally recognized legality or chain-of-custody evidence, including FSC/PEFC-type documentation where applicable.
