QUALITY · I2 / I3

I2 / I3 is a buyer-qualification framework, not a marketing sticker.

ISO 17225-2 covers graded wood pellets for industrial and non-industrial use. South Korea’s wood-pellet annex also uses I1/I2/I3 for industrial pellets. A shipment still needs the exact buyer limits, basis, methods and current batch evidence.

01

Class reference

Use I2/I3 to structure required parameters and identify a plausible technical fit.

02

Buyer specification

A utility, trader or tender may tighten sulfur, chlorine, ash, fines, dimensions or other limits beyond the generic class.

03

Batch acceptance

Fresh sampling, agreed methods and contract tolerances determine whether the shipment is accepted.

SIB PELLET SCREENING

What the current commercial reference already tells us.

Diameter6–8 mm
Moisture≤10%
Ash≤0.7%
Durability≥98%
Bulk density600–750 kg/m³
NCV≥4.6 kWh/kg
These numbers are useful for screening, but they do not close an I2/I3 qualification. Sulfur, chlorine, nitrogen, fines, trace elements, pellet length and ash behaviour must be verified if the buyer requires them.
ASIA MAPPING

Same product, different qualification logic.

South Korea: current industrial I1/I2/I3 framework plus utility-specific specifications and import-legality documentation.

Japan: plant specification plus traceability, sustainability and lifecycle GHG evidence for relevant FIT/FIP projects; JAS 0030-1:2026 is non-industrial in scope.
